Ben & Jerry’s Work Dogs: Part Two

Screen Shot 2014-10-14 at 5.49.38 PMMeet Work Dogs Rider, Spock, and Josie from Ben & Jerry’s!

Last week I was so fortunate to introduce you to three of the coolest work dogs who are also well-versed in everything ice cream. This week we’re back again with three more of the incredible office dogs at Ben & Jerry’s. Meet Rider, Spock, and Josie. These dogs are rounding out our two-part interview series with a company who understands just how helpful puppies can be in the workplace.

First of the awesome work dogs is Todd’s bud Rider!

RLP_5420-Rider

Napa: What’s your name and age?
Rider: My name is Rider, and I’m somewhere between 10 and 12. I guess that comes to 11.

Napa: What breed are you?
Rider: I’m a Welsh Pembroke Corgi. The kind without the tail accessory.

Napa: What’s a typical day like in the Ben & Jerry’s office?
Rider: A typical day at Ben & Jerry’s? Well, I like to begin each day by canvassing the front and side yards of the office for any fresh pee spots. Then I settle into some serious napping in any one of three dog beds/hidey-holes. I like to get out and stretch my legs once or twice between late morning and early afternoon, then it’s back to hanging out waiting for my person to call it a day.

Napa: Tell me more about Ben & Jerry’s.
Rider: There’s a great vibe in the office! People are very friendly and more than willing to bend down and give us dogs an ear scratch or a belly rub. Oh, and the place smells AMAZING! There always seems to be an opportunity for a treat. Food around here seems to be a pretty big deal.

Napa: Whose desk do you sit under most often?
Rider: I stay with my person for the whole day. If I go out he comes with me, but it doesn’t necessarily work the other way around. It’s okay though – he always comes back.

Napa: If you could tell your human co-workers anything, what would it be?
Rider:
I would thank them for letting us come and hang with them all day. I hear stories around the neighborhood that some dogs actually have to stay at home and wait for their people to come back.

Napa: Can you share any advice for other office dogs?
Rider: I would want to let them know that this is a great home away from home. I’ve heard that not all pups get to go to work every day, so we should always be mindful of how lucky we are to be part of the daily grind.

Up next, meet Lindsay’s sidekick Spock!

RLP_5598-Spock

Napa: What’s your name and age?
Spock: Spock – I’m almost three!

Napa: What breed are you?
Spock: French Bulldog

Napa: What’s a typical day like in the Ben & Jerry’s office?
Spock: I start my day off around 9 with a nice big bowl of water. Mom has coffee. Next comes playtime around 10am with my fellow K9-5ers, and then I venture back to my desk to nap, snore, and, if I’m really lucky, my mom will throw a ball around for me between her meetings. It’s then back outside for a nice long walk with Quimby/Kelly or a second round of playtime. More naps, belly rubs, and snoring generally round out my afternoon. Occasionally, naps get disturbed when I snore so loud I wake myself up … oops!

Napa: Tell me more about Ben & Jerry’s.
Spock: This place rocks my paws. I get to go to work every day, and no two days are the same. There are plenty of belly rubs, treats, and adventures to be had with my fellow K9 coworkers.

Napa: Whose desk do you sit under most often?
Spock: Lindsay’s, but I have my own bed at her desk where I spend most of my time.

Napa: Where are you from? What’s your favorite trait about the area you live in?
Spock: Born and bred Vermonter! I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Napa: Can you share any advice for other office dogs?
Spock: Keep your nose to the grind stone. Work hard, but remember to play harder.

Our final pup is Josie, pal of Justin!

RLP_4406-Josie

Napa: What’s your name and age?
Josie:
Josie, 12

Napa: What breed are you?
Josie:
Golden Retriever

Nap: What’s a typical day like in the Ben & Jerry’s office?
Josie:
Every day starts with some sniffing and a squat in the front yard, followed by a sprint through the door straight to the cookie jar at the front desk. After that, it’s basically all about the chill zone – a nap, some scratch-friendly visitors, maybe another nap, repeat – and then back outside for a leisurely lunchtime walk around the pond, sniffing-out rabbits and their tantalizingly tasty turds. Although, my human always barks at me when I’m tasting said turds. Then it’s back through to the cookie jar, chill zone, etc. Life. Is. Good.

Napa: Whose desk do you sit under most often?
Josie:
My desk, as my human taps away on that screen-machine.

Napa: Do you get to taste-test the ice cream? What are your favorite flavors?
Josie:
Nope – for a good reason. One time when I was a pupper, I snuck some ice cream off the table … and then the ice cream had me! It was a mess. You know, the kind of mess that needs to be cleaned up with a hose instead of a baggie?! Lesson learned.

Napa: Can you share any advice for other office dogs?
Josie:
You gotta leave the pack rules at the front door. There’s no need for marking your territory or positioning your dominance with a snip or a bark – just find your chill zone and enjoy the ride. Otherwise, it’s off to doggie daycare with those gen-pop gang-bangers.

Thank you Ben & Jerry’s and the awesome pet parents who allowed me to interview these super-cool dogs. I had such a great time getting to know these awesome pups!
