Meet Three Live Code Work Dogs

They might not be programmers, but these work dogs know how to rule the Live Code Office!

Interviewing dogs for my Working Dog Wednesdays series is so much fun, but you don’t know real fun until you interview three work dogs from the same company. Meet the lovely Juneau, Pancake, and Tio-Pepe from Live Code. Besides just being funny, these international work dogs are a great addition to the Live Code team. They certainly know their way around the office. I wonder who is really in charge – the humans or the dogs! Thanks so much to the two-legged parents for allowing me to interview your dogs.

Napa: What breed are you?
Tio-Pepe: Jackahuahua (Miniature Jack Russell Terrier X Chihuahua )

Juneau: I’m a Japanese Shiba Inu.

Pancake: I am a sassy Jack Russell and evidence that good things do come in small packages.

Napa: Tell me more about being work dogs at Live Code.
Tio: I have worked at LiveCode for the past six years as the Company Morale Officer.

It’s a tough job with many responsibilities; I have to look cute, sit on the developers and the sales and marketing team, chew things, and produce new cute things for them to keep them motivated. I also do a good job as the In-house Security Officer. Sleeping is also a large part of my job, which I somehow manage to balance with my other duties. They couldn’t do it without me!

Napa: What is a typical day like for work dogs in the Live Code office?
Pancake: Every morning I like to do my rounds to ensure that the office is secure from any possible dangers, which could be a suspicious looking teddy bear or a mischievously placed tennis ball. When such life-threatening events occur, I make sure to apprehend the potential threat and then parade it to show everyone that they are safe. Sometimes I invite them to assist me in said threat elimination by having them throw it around the room, so the threat knows no one will ever be frightened of it again.

I have tried to change my official title from Mascot to K9 Ninja, but the request must not have gotten to the Pack Leader Kevin yet. Note to self: intense stare to Kevin until change of name. That ought to do it.

In the afternoon I am involved in assisting lovely customers with their programming. I do this by sitting on my dad’s lap and making sure that what he is writing is actually correct.

After lunch, I have a nap and dad wakes me up to say it is “home time.” I am up as quick as a flash to tell everyone what great work they have done, and how they are all awesome. Sometimes Ben comes down to the floor for kisses. He always makes this face of pure delight. Not to boast or anything, but I am not surprised. I give the best kisses. As the pack starts to leave, I do one last round to secure the premises before heading home to tell mummy all about my day’s work.

Napa: Whose desk do you sit under most often?
Juneau: I really like hanging out near Tio’s mummy’s desk, because her handbag always smells of yummy treats, and I am usually guaranteed a snack of some sort if I stare at her long enough!

Napa: When you get bored around the office (in between important in the office tasks), how do you keep busy?
Tio: This is when I like to survey the floor and “steal” any dropped items from under the desks in the hope they might be swapped for a treat. Occasionally, and only occasionally (when nobody is looking), I might even play with Juneau.

Napa: What’s the best thing you’ve ever eaten around the office (even if you weren’t supposed to)?
Pancake: Hmm, I’ve had a taste of pretty much everything in the office, but I have to say licking people, especially their feet, is my favourite.

Napa: What’s your favorite funny dog video? Please share the link!
Pancake: There are so many out there! I do love this vine compilation video though.

Napa: Where are you from? What’s your favorite trait about the area you live in?
Juneau: My parents live in England, but I’m in Edinburgh, in Scotland. I get plenty of rural walks where I am, which means lots of rabbit holes to stick my nose into! I also live with 2 cats and 4 chickens and am besties with Levi, one of the cats.  Here’s a video of me at 10 weeks old and the chickens. Shakira’s the mean one, I almost got pecked by her a couple of times.

And this is me and Levi two weeks ago. He’s a sly one and tries to lick my bone every night, but we have bags of fun together.

Napa: If you could tell your human co-workers anything, what would it be?
Tio: Love me more! And bow ties are cool!

Napa: Can you share any advice for other office dogs?
Pancake:
Make sure to visit all office desks during lunch and give your best puppy-dog eyes. This always results in free food!

Napa: Have you ever created an app? If you haven’t, but you could, what would you create?
Juneau:
I would like to create an app where my food bowl auto refills!  Honestly, compared to the cats, the tricks I need to perform before I get fed is just unfair!
