Ever Visit the Onyx Hotel Boston? Meet Their Director of Pet Relations

I like to travel in style. This summer, my parents and I took a trip to Boston. Unfortunately, my parents booked a hotel on their own, and I didn’t get to stay at any of my top five choices. If you’d like me to be honest, I was most interested in meeting Charley, the director of Pet Relations at the Onyx Hotel Boston. But serendipity brought us together, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Napa: What breed are you?

Charley: Beagle

Napa: Tell me more about the Onyx Hotel.

Charley: Onyx is a Kimpton Hotel located in the West End of historic Boston! We  have 112 newly renovated guest rooms, and are located just steps away from TD Garden, Faneuil Hall, and the North End. Our warm and caring staff loves to welcome pet guests of all shapes and sizes!

Napa: What is a typical day like in the Onyx Hotel office?

Charley: We have a cozy space here at the Onyx. Our office is a small operation, so it’s always lively; always someone to chase around!  I love to lounge out by the front desk and welcome guests as they check-in. Sometimes I even visit friends at the offices in our other two Boston hotels, Nine Zero and Hotel Marlowe.

Charley: My Dad is the Director of Sales and Marketing for the three Kimpton hotels in Boston, so he moves around a lot. My favorite spot to sit is in the front window in the lobby!

Napa: When you get bored around the office (in between important tasks), how do you keep busy?

Charley: There’s hardly ever a dull moment in hotel life, but when the opportunity strikes, I like to relax in the Ruby Room and watch the news. I also love to ask for a walk around the block to a park where we can watch over the Zakim Bridge to see all the cars zooming by!

Napa: What’s the best thing you’ve ever eaten around the office (even if you weren’t supposed to)?

Charley: We stock up on gourmet treats from Polkadog Bakery (an amazing local shop)! I snack on those whenever I’m allowed … or anything peanut butter.

Napa: What’s your favorite funny dog video? Please share the link!

Charley: I can’t say I watch much YouTube these days, but I do love all of the doggy photos on our @KimptoninBOS Instagram!

Napa: Where are you from? What’s your favorite trait about the area you live in?

Charley: Currently, I live in the Boston suburbs with my family, the Breens. We recently moved up here from Philadelphia. I love the Minute Man Trail, a historic trail that runs through our town and is a great place to run around.

Charley: More belly rubs please! Just kidding …

Napa: Can you share any advice for other office dogs?

Charley: Sit back and relax, we have the best job in the world! To make people smile while they’re at stinky work!

What is your favorite pet activity you’ve ever hosted at the Onyx Hotel?

Charley: Well, I’m pretty new here, but we are planning an event with our friends at Polkadog Bakery this fall. I can’t wait to spend a day in their store (yum), and meet other local pups!
