Give the Gift of Dog Home Decor

Put your design skills to the test by incorporating these fun dog home decor ideas!

I love to relax by watching home design television shows. My favorite part is when the designers take some time to get to know their clients and surprise them with a personalized house-warming gift. If I got the chance to host a home design show, my clients would all have a dog in their family, and I’d decorate with dog home decor.

Seeing as how HGTV hasn’t contacted me yet to start the show-hosting process, I figured I’d share some of my favorite design tips with you. Are you looking to buy a house-warming gift? Do you know someone who recently renovated their current home who is also dog-crazy? Here are a few suggestions of dog home decor that will wow your friends and family.

Scarlett and Co

Everyone has a couch, right? Well, I guess that’s a generalization. If you know someone who doesn’t have a couch, there is a good chance they at least have a bed, chairs, or patio furniture that could use another decorative element. Fun throw pillows, like these Dachshund pillows from Scarlett and Co, are a great option for a gift at any time of the year. They are whimsical, yet contemporary, and would match many different house designs.

Bed Bath and Beyond

If you’re looking for a house-warming gift for someone who loves their pups, consider getting them a decorative sign, like this one from Bed Bath and Beyond, for their new house. Decorative signs are always a good gift to give if you’re unsure of someone’s design tastes. They work well in any room of the house. A sign like this could easily be hung on the wall of any room, and if the person you’re buying a gift for doesn’t hang much up, they could always lean this against a bookshelf or window.

FruitFlyPie

Looking for a way to celebrate new life, be it a new baby or dog? This puppy planter from FruitFlyPie is a super fun gift that will be used for years to come. There are endless opportunities of what you can plant in this planter. Something hardy, like in the picture above, will last a long time. Other options include planting miniature versions of flowers, like miniature roses, or even planting herbs, like basil or green onions, your giftee can use while cooking.

Most people have books, magazines, photo albums, or something the stack on a bookshelf. Jazz up their little library with fun bookends like these Poodle book holders from Anthropologie. This gift will serve a purpose and last through time. Even if the person you’re gifting this to has a small book collection, like the one above, I’ll bet he’ll still love the tough work these pups are putting in to guard his books!

Ikea

Okay, so this product has been out for years, but I love these dog-bum hangers from Ikea. They are so much fun! In my house, we use them to hang our guest jackets and also my leashes and extra collars. You could really use these for anything. Put them in the bathroom to hold towels and handtowels. They could be used to hang your keys or even your jewelry.  This is one functional piece of dog home decor.
