The Best Dog Gifts for Any Last-Minute Shopper

Little dog as gift for ChristmasOh, you’re one of those last minute shoppers. There’s less than a week until Christmas, and you still don’t have a gift for your furry friends. Have no fear, Napa is here! I’ve got a bunch of great suggestions for the best dog gifts that you can still get in time for the holidays.

Subscription Boxes: The Gift That Keeps on Giving

I’m a huge fan of subscription boxes, and I’ve signed up for a few. Every month, a bunch of goodies gets delivered to me at home. I don’t need to beg my parents for new toys or treats, they just show up magically in the mail.

Barkbox: I love my monthly Barkbox. LOVE. It comes to me in the mail filled with treats and toys. What’s better than that? It might be too late to receive the box by Christmas, but that shouldn’t deter you. Since your dog will get a new box every month, ordering now will start his new year off perfectly! The treats are my favorite. There are always so many yummies, and I never know which bag to open first!

PetBox: Here’s another great subscription. Try Petbox if you’re looking for toys, treats, and other helpful dog-related items. I’m always impressed to see things like doggy waste bags come through in the mail. It’s important to pick up the poop! The toys I’ve received have been great quality. Let’s just say I’ve been known to break new toys just by looking at them, and I have so many that seem indestructible (so far).

DoggieLawn: Looking for a “backyard in a box?” A DoggieLawn subscription is a great gift for your dog, especially in the winter. Yes, dogs prefer relieving themselves outside, but I know a lot of dogs who hate going outside in the winter. This subscription sends fresh lawn to your house that your dog can use to tinkle on indoors! No need to worry about peeing on the carpet anymore. Your dog will have his own bathroom spot delivered fresh as often as you sign up for.

Experiences

I try to give experience types of gifts when I can’t make homemade presents. My top two suggestions for the best dog gifts would be grooming and dog socialization.

Grooming: I love to look my best. I’m not vain, but I try to present myself as a serious, professional office dog. I really appreciate it when my parents take me to get groomed. This fur of mine can get real fluffy and even become matted if not taken care of properly. A day at a good groomer’s office should be like a day at the spa for your pampered pup.

Dog Socialization: If you live in a warm climate, your dog may be frequenting a local dog park. While I love living in New England, I don’t necessarily love being cooped up indoors in the winter. I’d love an activity present at my local doggy-day care or even a retail store that offers indoor dog socialization times.  Playing is just so much fun that it shouldn’t be limited to warm climates and the sunny outdoors!

Homemade Treats

The only homemade gift I can think that I would love right about now are treats! Treats are the yummiest, and almost all dogs love indulging every once in a while. Plus, if you make homemade dog treats, you control the ingredients, and you can make them extra healthy. If you’ve never made treats before, follow my recipe. The ingredients won’t cost you very much – you may even have some of them in your pantry – and the whole process is super simple.

Quick! Run to the Store

If you’re brave enough to head to the stores, there are tons of gifts you can get your dog. We love food, so any new meal or treat you find would be super satisfying. Lots of stores have great selection on dog toys, and even if they don’t, you can usually find something for us – like tennis balls – in the sporting goods section. If you have a tiny dog, he may appreciate a new warm sweater for the winter. Any dog could use a brand new collar and leash for long walks.

It’s not too late! You can still purchase the best dog gifts in time to surprise your pup. If you’re lucky, he might have even got you a gift in return!
