Today, I get to interview two office dogs: Bunnie and Winston from The Natural Curtain Company in Suffolk, United Kingdom. They have humans working all over England, Wales, and Scotland!
Napa: What breed are you?
Bunnie: I’m a Lurcher and my pal Winston is a Working Cocker Spaniel. We’re very different but we’re best friends.
Napa: Tell me more about working at The Natural Curtain Company. I’d love to learn more about the company.
Bunnie: The company makes Ready Made and Made to Measure Curtains and Blinds from natural fabrics like cotton, linen and silk. All of the business is online so customers order from all around the UK, while most of us work from the Suffolk countryside. Some of the team work in London, the ladies that make the curtains are in Wales and some things are made in Scotland, too, so the humans are all scattered about.
Napa: What is a typical day like in the Natural Curtain Company office?
Winston: It gets busy with customers calling up and orders going through, but everyone here is fun and relaxed. There is a great atmosphere and I get excited when my mum says it’s time to go to work in the morning!
We come into the office a bit later than Bunnie & her dad so it’s always really exciting for me to rush in to see if Bunnie is there! The other humans are always pleased to see me too! I always give them a full-body wag in greeting!
Bunnie: We don’t really get paws on (we’ve been told off about that…) but there is lots of lovely fabric coming in and out of the office all day. The humans work pretty hard so it can feel like a long day for us pups, especially when we can see exciting things outside that we should be chasing together, like rabbits and birds!
Napa: Whose desk do you sit under most often?
Winston: I have a bed under mum’s desk that is beside the window in the sunshine. The sill is down by the floor so sometimes we lie there with our noses pressed up against the window to see out.
Bunnie: Yeah, that is definitely the best spot. Winston lets me have his bed sometimes.
Winston: I lie in Bunnie’s bed when she doesn’t come to work ’cause I miss her…
Bunnie: Do you? That is so cute Winston…
Napa: When you get bored around the office (in between important in the office tasks), how do you keep busy?
Bunnie: We talk to the humans and get cuddles & tummy rubs. They always appreciate the distraction. About lunchtime, my dad takes us both for a really long walk on the river close to the office.
Winston: If things get really dull we sometimes unplug the office phone wires under the desks and cut everyone off! Sure-fire way to get attention! Luckily the customers find it pretty funny too…
Napa: What’s the best thing you’ve ever eaten around the office (even if you weren’t supposed to)?
Winston: We get a lot of delivery drivers coming to the office and the best ones give us treats!
Bunnie: But if we get bored there is usually some paper around to tear up and make a mess with…
Napa: What’s your favorite funny dog video? Please share the link!
Winston: We know how this guy feels…
Napa: Where are you from? What’s your favorite trait about the area you live in?
Bunnie: We are both Suffolk born and bred so we’re real country dogs. We live surrounded by fields, the River Ore and the North Sea. It’s very flat but we have huge open skies which are always changing. Lots of things for us to chase too!
Napa: If you could tell your human co-workers anything, what would it be?
Winston: You are never too busy to give us attention or to go for a walk.
Napa: Can you share any advice for other office dogs?
Bunnie: Work on your sad eye look… it’s an important negotiation tool.
Napa: What’s the best curtain option for pups? Do you have any curtains with dog designs?
Bunnie: We did once, it had Scotty dogs on it, but we got jealous. Winston’s Mum uses him as a photography model sometimes.
Winston: Yeah! I was in the Christmas campaign! Well, I definitely like a cosy house, especially since I feel all the drafts when I’m lying on the floor! So lining your curtains is important.
Bunnie: Yeah and definitely get samples of your fabric before you buy so you can make sure everything goes perfectly.
Napa: If your humans let you design any curtain you wanted, what would you come up with?
Winston: My fabric would definitely have pheasants on it. I was made for chasing pheasants. I love pheasants.
Bunnie: I like animals, too, but mine would have rabbits on them…. Or deer. I like deer too.
