I’m really excited about today’s interview with Belle! She works at Schmidt Public Affairs in Virginia. I love Virginia because their state tree is the DOGwood tree. Haha. Anyway, I hope you enjoy reading Belle’s interview as much as I enjoyed barking with her.
Napa: What breed are you?
Belle: I am a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (CKCS). I am 7 years old and tri-colored!
Napa: Tell me more about working at Schmidt Public Affairs. I’d love to learn more about the company.
Belle: Schmidt Public Affairs is a Washington, DC area public affairs firm that focuses on healthcare policy issues. It’s important that I know what’s going on in the policy world at all times, so I try to stay informed by watching the news and reading the newspaper. I even have my very own page on our website.
Napa: What is a typical day like in the Schmidt Public Affairs office?
Belle: Well, I try to get in by 9:00 a.m. each day. I usually say hi to the folks in the front office and roll around on the carpet. I like to do that to scratch my ears and back. Then I head upstairs with my mom to her office. I get a treat and eat my breakfast.
We take a walk around the block at lunchtime. I attend staff meetings and sit in on client conference calls with my mom. I sometimes sleep on the sofa in the office next to mine b/c the sun shines there and I like to sunbathe.
Napa: Whose desk do you sit under most often?
Belle: My mom’s desk! Always. I have a nice big doggy bed.
Napa: When you get bored around the office (in between important in the office tasks), how do you keep busy?
Belle: I like to wander around and say hi to everyone. We are a small business, so I know everybody. Lots of times, when I visit my colleagues, they pick me up and give me tummy rubs.
Napa: What’s the best thing you’ve ever eaten around the office (even if you weren’t supposed to)?
Belle: Lunch left overs out of the garbage! My mom gets upset with me, but sometimes I find some REALLY good stuff!
Napa: What’s your favorite funny dog video? Please share the link!
Belle: I don’t really watch dog videos, but I do have lots of CKCS friends on Instagram. You can follow me at @BeltwayBelle.
Napa: Where are you from? What’s your favorite trait about the area you live in?
Belle: I’ve always lived in Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia. It’s a very dog-friendly area. I am allowed in most every shop and the bank. Lots of them even give me treats!
Napa: If you could tell your human co-workers anything, what would it be?
Belle: Stop looking at those computer things all day, that’s boring! PLAY!
Napa: Can you share any advice for other office dogs?
Belle: Try not to snore when you’re napping. I do, and my mom has to shush me a lot when we are in meetings.
Napa: I love the work Schmidt Public Affairs is doing. What type of canine policies would you like to see changed or reformed?
Belle: I’d like to institute a lunch-sharing program where I would get 10% of each employee’s lunch.
