Searching for the best dog-friendly hotels in Maine? I can help you find one!
Ever since coming back from my cross-country road trip a few months ago, I’ve been bugging my parents to take me on another vacation. Maybe I’ve got what you humans call cabin fever after being cooped up in the house and office all winter. The weather this winter in New England has been a mess! Now that spring has sprung, I think it’s time to hop in the car and find the best dog-friendly hotels I can.
We’ve been busy with work, so I know I need to think local and present to my parents a quick and close road-trip. The best part of living in Rhode Island is that so many great destinations are just a quick drive away. I’m going to try to convince my family to spend a weekend in Maine, and here are the five best dog-friendly hotels I could find. Now the tough part starts – where should we go?
1. The Inn at St. John – Portland, Maine
If you’re looking for some old-world charm, a stay at The Inn at St. John might be perfect for your four-legged friend. Located in downtown Portland (which is just where I want to be), this inn was built in 1897 and is the city’s oldest continuously operating Victorian inn. That’s a long time to stay open! I find that many hotels that allow dogs are usually chain hotels, and I haven’t yet to find a Victorian inn, so this is a very exciting find. Plus, the pet fee is only $10 a day. Totally affordable.
2. York Harbor Inn – York Harbor, Maine
If your dog loves special treatment while traveling, consider staying at the York Harbor Inn, where they offer a Pet Pampering Package. While dogs are welcome to travel there with you at any time, this package has many treats for both you and your furry friend. Arrive at the hotel for your first surprise – welcome treats for you and your puppy! In addition, you can enjoy a dinner at the hotel for two while your puppy enjoys a deluxe spa package. This sounds blissful to me!
3. Wolf Cove Inn – Poland, Maine
Are you interested in staying at a bed and breakfast, but you know that dogs are almost never allowed there? (What gives?) Well, I found a perfect bed and breakfast in the Wolf Cove Inn. This lakeside luxury B&B loves pets. Enjoy a stroll near the lake or romp around on the expansive grass. Maybe your pup will even find a squirrel to chase! If you want to travel through Maine without your pet, then sign him up for doggy day care at the boarding place down the street!
4. Inn by the Sea – Cape Elizabeth, Maine
If you’re looking for an oceanfront luxury resort in Maine, check out the Inn by the Sea. This place sounds great and has a special package that includes a private 30-minute doggie massage, a personalized L.L. Bean dog bed, and a specialized room service menu just for dogs. They also serve locally-made dog treats. Don’t worry, you can spoil yourself while your dog is pampered too with a spa package or a local lobster catch cruise.
5. Birches Resort – Rockwood, Maine
If you’re an outdoor enthusiast, a stay at the Birches Resort may be just what you need. This awesome place is guaranteed to be enjoyed by your human and canine family. Pets are allowed in the cabins, cabin tents, and yurts. They can even take part in some of the on-and-off site out door activities.
