Introducing Franklin, the Piazza Office Dog

I love meeting office dogs from around the world. I don’t get to meet many dogs in the field of education, so I’m excited to introduce you to Franklin, from Piazza, an online tool that saves time, and helps students learn using the power of community. I hope you’ll enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed the interview.

Napa: What breed are you?

Franklin: Longhaired miniature dachshund

Napa: Tell me more about working at Piazza.

Franklin: Working at  Piazza has been great!  I’m the only dog in the office of I get a ton of love from fellow employees. I have a shark dog bed that I get to nap in for as long as I’d like. My portrait is hanging on the employee wall. Also we’re right downtown Palo Alto, so I get to go on walks often and try to lick tasty things on the sidewalk.

Napa: What is a typical day like in the Piazza office?

Franklin: My owner David rides an electric skateboard to work so I’m pretty serious about my morning 7 block run. Once I get in, I’m joyfully greeted by my fellow employees, do a few quick laps around the office to check for fallen breakfast crumbs, then I lay in the middle of the room for a nap. When lunch arrives I wake up, show the caterer to the kitchen and then spend the rest of the day at the feet and laps of different employees. Pretty rough life.

Napa: Whose desk do you sit under most often?

Franklin: Our VP of marketing Jessica has a very special dog sense, so I can more than likely be found within a 4 feet of her desk.

Napa: When you get bored around the office (in between important in the office tasks), how do you keep busy?

Franklin: I love to do tricks for people visiting the office and will gladly entertain them while they wait to enter meetings.

Napa: What’s the best thing you’ve ever eaten around the office (even if you weren’t supposed to)?

Franklin: I was very excited to get the better half of a roast beef sub that someone left on a low sitting plate during a meeting.

Napa: What’s your favorite funny dog video? Please share the link!

Franklin: Crusoe the Dachshund makes me lol

Napa: Where are you from? What’s your favorite trait about the area you live in?

Franklin: I moved from Michigan about 2 years ago, and my favorite thing about that area was getting to jump into large piles of snow!

Napa: If you could tell your human co-workers anything, what would it be?

Franklin: “Leave all your food on the floor and walk into the other room, don’t ask questions”

Napa: Can you share any advice for other office dogs?

Franklin: If you can just hold your bladder and not bark, you too could get a job at a cool office!

Napa: Have you ever helped a student get the information they need? If so, tell me the story. If not, what kind of student would you like to work with?

Franklin: They don’t let me too close to the computers but if I could work with a student it would definitely be a culinary student with lots of edible homework 🙂
