The Exclusive Q & A with Bernard from Stanton and Company

I love meeting office dogs. You know, there are a lot of us working hard to help our humans do their best work. Today, I get to interview Bernard, from Stanton & Company. He’s in the marketing and PR field, so I wonder if his clients pay him in treats? Let’s find out.

Bernard, the Stanton and Company office dog

Napa: What breed are you?

Bernard: I’m a mutt. My mom was a pitbull mix and my dad was a lab or a hound, we think.

Napa: Tell me more about working at Stanton & Company

Bernard: Stanton & Company is a great environment. I love that it’s dog-friendly and it’s mostly women so I help balance that out with my manliness. There are a number of photos of me in the office and all of the party invites feature me (sometimes I have to dress up for the photoshoots which I don’t love). Bottom line: they love me there and that feels good.

Napa: What is a typical day like in the Stanton & Company office?

Bernard: Between trolling through the trash for food and barking at delivery men, there’s lots for a dog to do.

Napa: Whose desk do you sit under most often?

Bernard:  My person, Amy, prefers that I stay in her office so she can keep an eye on me. Sometimes I like to have a little alone time so I go to my second bed in the couch area.

Napa: When you get bored around the office (in between important in the office tasks), how do you keep busy?

Bernard: Honestly, I am never really bored. I have to keep a close eye on everyone and everything going on so that keeps me very busy. That said, I do have a toy octopus that I carry around and encourage people to throw. It’s hard for them to resist me, even if they’re in a meeting or on a conference call.

Napa: What’s the best thing you’ve ever eaten around the office (even if you weren’t supposed to)?

Bernard: Denege used to feed me meat on occasion until the dog medium told Amy about it and now that’s over. We can’t get away with anything.

Napa: Where are you from? What’s your favorite trait about the area you live in?

Bernard: I was born right after Hurricane Katrina in St. Bernard Parish (thus, my name); it was tough times and then I was taken by the Humane Society of NYC to New York where Amy and I found each other. Between the Upper Westside in NYC and Venice Beach, I’ve been living large ever since. My favorite part about my hometown is that the people (and dogs) are very resilient and don’t give up. I admire that.

Napa: If you could tell your human co-workers anything, what would it be?

Bernard: To breathe and relax…they shouldn’t take things so seriously. Sometimes they get worked up over the silliest things. When I’m upset about something, five minutes later I’m over it…it’s almost like it never happened!

Napa: Can you share any advice for other office dogs?

Bernard:  At first people might seem annoyed when you bark during conference calls. Just know that over time, the clients will get used to it so it won’t be an issue. Keep up the good work.

Napa: I love that Stanton & Company focuses on sports and lifestyle marketing and PR. What are your favorite sports.

Bernard: Running is my favorite – I jog 3-4 times a week.
