The Hive RI Work Dog Stops By

We all know by now how much I love working in my building, an old, but renovated mill. I love meeting other dogs in the hallways and outside. Another excellent space in Rhode Island is The Hive RI, a co-working space in Southern R.I. Located in another beautiful and renovated mill, people can rent space to work at The Hive RI. It’s a great co-working space, but the best part is that dogs are allowed! Today’s Office Dog interview features Sophie, a Corgi whose mom Tuni is the co-founder of the Hive. Thanks Tuni and Sophie for taking the time to speak with me. I love meeting new dogs, especially local office dogs!

Napa: What breed are you?
Sophie: I’m a Pembroke Welsh Corgi

Napa: Tell me more about The Hive RI.
Sophie: The Hive RI is a collaborative co-working space, an art gallery, an educational center, a venue for other professionals to hold seminars/workshops/presentations, an overall supportive infrastructure for any business, and the nucleus of the bigger community based economy here at the historic Lafayette Mill Complex!

Napa: What is a typical day like in the The Hive RI office?
Sophie: Each day is unique here at The Hive RI. Some are quiet, and some are busy with co-workers working alone, alone together or in groups. Yet other days are full of events!

Napa: Whose desk do you sit under most often?
Sophie: Either mine – yes, I’ve taken a space under one of the desks that very few seem to use. It gives me a quiet place to chill, while I’m also able to see who is coming and going, etc – or I hang in my human’s office.

Napa: When you get bored around the office (in between important in the office tasks), how do you keep busy?
Sophie: Well, I am a 14-year-old lady, so chilling out is what I do most of the time, but I’m also a huge fan of going for walks in Ryan Park (which is right behind our property and full of wooded paths, gravel roads, ponds, etc) or dumpster diving.

Napa: What’s the best thing you’ve ever eaten around the office (even if you weren’t supposed to)?
Sophie: Shhh, that’s a total secret.  I am older, so I’m on a pretty strict and boring diet, but I do manage to scrounge up some great finds at the dumpster.

Napa: What’s your favorite funny dog video? Please share the link!
Sophie: I don’t really watch a lot of dog videos, but Hubble (from Hub Digital Mktg.) is one of my peeps at The Hive, and he’s a French Bulldog. I clearly have a soft spot for those funny looking canines, and there’s a really funny video of a French Bulldog puppy jumping into his human’s arms that I like.

Napa: Where are you from? What’s your favorite trait about the area you live in? IMG_6263
Sophie: I’m from Southern R.I., and what can I say but #welivehere!  It’s pretty awesome all around R.I., but I’m partial to Rome Pt., which is also known as ‘Chaffee Preserve’ and Beavertail. I hang out at horse barns a lot with my humans. That’s where I’m happiest — the barn or the beach!

Napa: If you could tell your human co-workers anything, what would it be?
Sophie: “Ya, I farted, and I’m not sleeping! I’m old, and I really don’t care!”

Napa: Can you share any advice for other office dogs?
Sophie
: Be chill so they’ll take you with them!

Napa: What is it like to work in an office with humans and another dog? How does everyone get along?
Sophie:
I work in a very cool non-office office space, so I just feel pretty lucky.  I’m relaxed, and because of that, I get to be here all the time, when it’s just me and my human or even if there are over 100 people here.  It’s pretty great, and there are really no conflicts to speak of. For instance, my human just let’s people know that almost anything goes if everyone just practices common sense and is kind and respectful. So that just means no dogs that have ever had a history of aggressive behavior, barking, jumping and such can come…it is a co-working space after all!
